The Do’s

  1. Use participation for grades
  2. Assess an illness claim without a doctor’s note
  3. Adopt a camera-optional approach for remote instruction
  4. Allow make up work for students who miss classes and equal opportunity to earn grades
  5. Encourage out-of-class viewing of licensed material
  6. Remind students of the plan to record immediately before any recording takes place (sample language);
  7. Share recording with only students presently enrolled in the same section; Remove any type of identifying information if the recordings are to be used after the end of the semester.

In addition,

  • Describe your course teaching strategy in your syllabus;
  • Have a contingency plan if you become ill or must quarantine;
  • If you have in-person instructions: describe how you plan to accommodate students who are ill, and how to transition to a fully remote teaching mode.
  • Use the 2020 August Syllabus Checklist to make sure you have all the required elements.
